You can go ahead and inspect it if you have the skills, but if you have never done it before, hire a septic cleaning professional to help you out.

When you are inspecting the unit, you need to pay attention to a number of tips for you to do it properly. Some of these tips include:

1.Sludge level

The septic tank inspector should check the sludge level on the septic tank. This can be done by using a sludge judge device.Basically, the sludge should not accumulate more than third of the total septic tank volume.

2.Liquid waste

When inspecting a septic tank you should check if there is any liquid waste that might have spilled on the ground surface. This will help you know the condition of the septic tank.

Therefore, the inspectors should ensure that the tank is watertight to avoid waste from spilling on the ground and also ensuring that the groundwater does not get into the tank to avoid the tank unnecessarily filling up.

3.Check baffle conditions

Basically, baffle are septic tank components that are capable of regulating wastewater entry in the septic tank to enhance proper solid distillation.

The buffers should be properly connected to the septic tanks outlet pipes and inlet pipes for increased efficiency of the system and also ensures that the system last for a very long period of time.

The inspectors should ensure that the baffles are not overflowing, ensure it does not have any sign of chemical and water flow erosion and also should check on the level of the sewage.level of sewage should be a few inches below the baffle as higher level indicates there is a blockage while a lower level shows that there is leakage in the septic tank.

4.Septic tank lid riser condition

If your septic tank has a lid riser, The inspector should ensure that it’s in good condition and have no cracks in it.
